The Green Canyon jeep safari is two tours stitched into one long day. You spend the first half in a convoy of 4×4 Land Rovers on mountain tracks, and the second half afloat on the emerald lake of the Oymapınar dam. It is the busiest day on our programme for a good reason: you see dusty hills, history and calm water without changing hotels, and nobody has to drive.
Mountain tracks and a Roman landmark
From your hotel the minibus follows the coast road towards Manavgat. There the Land Rovers take over and climb off the tarmac into the Taurus foothills. On the way you stop at the remains of a Roman aqueduct that once carried water to ancient Side, and at a viewpoint where the canyon and the Mediterranean are in the same photo. A small zoo along the route is an optional extra with its own entrance fee. Expect water fights between the vehicles, so keep your phone in a waterproof pouch.
On the lake
Next comes the boat: a cruise of about an hour on the green water, framed by pine-clad cliffs, with roughly half an hour of it set aside for swimming. Life jackets are on board for non-swimmers. Lunch is eaten at a restaurant beside the lake, and there is more free time to swim before the second off-road stretch takes you back down. Kids from 3 to 11 get the child fare; toddlers under 3 ride free.
Pickup
We collect guests at about 09:00 along the Alanya coast, in Side, in Manavgat and in the resorts between them, and you are back at your hotel around 16:00. For a quieter day on the same lake, there is the Green Canyon boat trip with fishing; for a gentler vehicle, the open-top cabrio bus safari.

Frequently asked questions
Can I swim in the lake?
Yes – the boat stops for about half an hour of swimming, and there is more time at the lakeside restaurant after lunch. Life jackets are available.
Do I drive?
No. Experienced local drivers handle the Land Rovers, so you can sit back and join the water fights.
Is this safari good for children?
Usually very much so. Kids from 3 to 11 get the child fare and toddlers under 3 ride free. The tracks are bumpy, which is why we advise against it for pregnant women.
